Knishes Found at the Tenement Museum!
It's true! We stopped at the Tenement Museum Bookstore on Orchard Street yesterday and had a happy surprise! Smack dab center on the long table of picture books—The Knish War On Rivington Street! It was so busy I did not try to talk to the manager and offer to sign them. I'll go back and do that on a less busy day. It's one of those bookstores filled with temptations; so many books about old New York, immigrant life, and a history that our first generation parents didn't tal

Meet Solly and Benny!
Budsies.com created dolls that look just like Solly and Benny, two boys in my new storybook, The Knish War on Rivington Street. They'll be going along to all my storytime readings in the coming weeks. I learned about Budsies at the toyportfolio.com, where I review children's products. Benny and Solly, my special Budsies!
Today, my two worlds collided in a delightful way. Weeks ago, wearing my toy reviewer hat for toyportfolio.com, I received a doll in the mail designed from a child’s drawing, a PR package from www.budsies.com, a company that creates soft plush dolls from your child’s pictures or photos of your family pet or if you like, from a photo of someone you know. I loved the idea and the quality of the reproduction. My new book arrived at about the same time and I instantly knew I had

Miles & his BaBa Enjoy Knishes
Miles asked his Grandpa James (aka as "BaBa") to read his G-G's* The Knish War on Rivington Street. Miles must be my youngest fan and I am perhaps his oldest, since he's my first great grandson and the knish book is dedicated to him. I'm not sure if Miles has tasted a knish yet. We'll have to do something about that. You can't start too soon with goodies like books and knishes! *G-G stands for my newest title...Great Grandma

A teacher's guide to using the Knish War in your classroom.
My good friend, Jean Marzollo, the author of many wonderful books, including the well loved series of I Spy books, recently read The Knish War on Rivington Street and wrote to say that I needed to do a teacher's guide. Of course, as a former early childhood teacher, I planned to do that. Teachers who read this book will know it's not just a funny story. It's about competition and the big idea that there can be more than one kind of good...not everything ( or everyone) has
